Shadow Justice Minister & Labour MP for Barnsley Central, Dan Jarvis visited Milton Keynes College last month to see for himself the impressive work being carried out in the commercial businesses and apprenticeship programmes at the College.

Mr Jarvis said, “It was a pleasure to visit the fantastic facilities at Milton Keynes College with Andrew Pakes, Labour’s local parliamentary candidate. Milton Keynes College do brilliant work equipping young people for the future and creating a supportive environment where students can learn and earn.”

The Shadow Minister was given a tour of the excellent facilities and was shown the range of high level of apprenticeships available to businesses and young people in the area.

“It is a great example of why Labour’s plans include proper apprenticeships lasting two years, a Technical Baccalaureate, technical degrees and better careers advice.

“Our ambition for Britain should be to build a first class vocational education system that rivals the best in the world – one with more places like Milton Keynes College.”

Mr Jarvis was also treated to a backstage circuit of College restaurant, The Brasserie and the new Express service which operates a take away-outlet. Level Three apprentice, Emma Mumford, has been an integral part of The Brasserie since she joined the College four months ago.

Sarah King, Restaurant Manager explained, "Emma has been invaluable to the development of The Brasserie. With the addition of the apprentice role it has meant we were able to launch The Brasserie Express which is proving to be a successful venture.”

Apprentices at MK College receive the same award-winning support that full-time BTEC and A Level learners have access to. This includes CV and application support from recruitment specialists REED NCFE which helps to make all learners to be as work-ready as possible on completion of their apprenticeship qualifications.
