The hard work has paid off for thrilled Milton Keynes College students who were invited to a glamorous celebration at a top London venue to become the first graduates of the Peter Jones Enterprise Academy (PJEA).

The College teamed up with the television tycoon last September.  Over the past twelve months students have all set up their own companies ranging from a floristry and an IT Service consultancy to a retail clothing company. The course has been designed to support students while encouraging and engaging them in networking events and successfully going head-to-head with other PJEA students at other colleges in national and local competitions. Work experience in businesses including global watches, clothes and accessories giant Fossil and regional Frosts Garden Centre have also provided students with an insight into working in a professional environment.

Following the graduation, a number of the students will be continuing to expand and grow their businesses in Media, Photography and IT Support sectors.  Successful graduate Matthew Pickering says, “Studying for the Peter Jones Academy Level 3 Diploma has taught me how to run my business successfully. My knowledge base and business acumen has been developed and fine-tuned through the hands-on work experience I have received as a result of all the projects and challenges I’ve had to lead on, my work-experience at the global electronics company, Bosch, and from the expert tutors who have taught me this year.   The Graduation ceremony was very impressive and having Peter Jones present my certificate was a great way to round-off the experience.”

The graduation ceremony was held at the spectacular Freemasons’ Hall in Covent Garden and was attended by successful students from all over the country, including those from Milton Keynes, all of whom successfully completed the course.  Peter Jones was delighted to recognise the graduates’ efforts, “The Peter Jones Enterprise Academy graduation is always such a highlight for me and it is fantastic to celebrate the next generation of entrepreneurs as they embark on the next chapter of their lives – these are the ones to watch, the young people who will be changing the world!”

Students enrolling for the next academic year can look forward to an exciting menu of activities which will provide vital business insight coupled with the encouragement to develop young people to unleash their entrepreneurial talent. There will be nine modules in total including: The Innovative Entrepreneur, Business Planning and Pitching and Launching your Business Vision which will require a mix of working on their own and as part of a team in order to achieve the Level 3 qualification.
