This 360-acre development by Places for People which launched to the public in September last year features two to five bedroom homes, a school with two more planned for the site, play areas and large landscaped open spaces.

A prominent feature of this landscaping is the now locally famous and award-winning Brooklands Ridge. Designed to be both an eye-catching feature to the site as well as being an effective sound barrier from the nearby M1 motorway, Brooklands Ridge is a mammoth civil engineering project which has already been recognised with an Environment Award from the Chartered Institution of Highways and Transportation (CIHT).

Phase One of the ridge has recently been completed and runs approximately half the length of the site. Built by Smith Construction, the company were invited to take part in a competitive tender for Phase Two and following their success in this process, have been re-appointed by Places for People for the construction of Phase Two.

Work on Phase Two is expected to last two and a half years and gives full-time employment to 25 local workers on the project.

Smith Construction’s Commercial Director, John Banks explains; “We are delighted to have secured the contract for Phase Two of the Brooklands Ridge. We have worked with Places for People since 2008 in developing Phase One and we look forward to continuing our strong working relationship in the future’’

Places for People’s Projects Implementation Manager for Infra Structure at Brooklands, Badj Rahman commented; ‘’The ridge is a fundamental part of life at Brooklands. It is both an attractive feature to the landscape and a very effective noise barrier from the M1 motorway. So much so, you often forget it’s there.

‘’Smith Construction has proven to be a very effective working partner to us here on site and we look forward to moving forward with them over the contract period.’’

Tim Roxburgh, Director of Milton Keynes Partnership commented; "The development of the ridge has been crucial to the delivery of houses. The start of the second phase marks a key milestone in this exciting project."
