An eighteen year old hairdressing student from Milton Keynes College is off to represent the UK in international competition and set to work backstage at London Fashion Week after winning a national competition.

Competitors battled it out in categories relating to different fashion eras and Rochelle Winkworth from Bletchley chose a futuristic look for her winning style in the event sponsored by salon wholesalers, Chris and Sons.

“I wanted to do something which hadn’t really been done before and to create lots of different textures in the hair,” Rochelle says.  “There were so many brilliant competitors that I just can’t believe that I’ve won.  I’m in shock.”

A fantastic dual prize awaits Rochelle; not only will she be working backstage with internationally renowned stylists at this year’s London Fashion Week but she’ll also represent the UK at the Young Promises Show at Look International 2013 in Madrid in October – also known as the Spanish Hair Olympics.

“The prize is just fantastic,” she says, “and will be great experience for me.  I plan to do my Level 3 qualification here at Milton Keynes College before hopefully getting a job in the fashion side of the industry.”

If Rochelle does make it to the catwalks and magazine shoots she craves she says she will owe a great deal to the training she receives at Milton Keynes College.

“It really is an excellent course,” she says. “We get brilliant training and real experience in the Francesco Hair Salon, The Graduate, at the College.

College Head of Hair & Beauty, Debbie Houghton says, “Rochelle has only been studying her craft since September 2011 and has demonstrated outstanding skills and ability during her time with us.  It speaks volumes about her hard work and the help she’s had from people here that she’s managed this fantastic and well-deserved achievement.”

It’ been a whirlwind few days for Rochelle.  Hours after winning that competition she was off to America as part of the MK Cheerleading Academy team taking part in a major international event in Florida.
