After nine months of hard work, over 80 students from Milton Keynes’ Schools and colleges will present their work at the Midsummer Place Shopping Centre Young Fashion Designer of the Year Awards.

On Tuesday, June 19, from 6.15pm onwards 86 students from across five schools will showcase their work, topping last year’s 70 students. Participating schools include; MK College; Milton Keynes Academy; Lord Grey; Stantonbury and The Hazeley Academy.

All students have submitted their work into four age categories; year nine, 10/11, 12 and 13 all based around the theme of Royal Ascot through the Years and Vivienne Westwood.

The work will be judged in two stages by the judges; a representative from GAP, the editor of a local fashion magazine and a representative from Midsummer Place Shopping Centre. The first part of judging is based on the students’ coursework that has been prepared over the past nine months and the second stage is based on the finale catwalk on Tuesday 19th.

This year the show will be opened at 6.15pm by an exclusive GAP fashion show, before the students showcase their hard work on the runway. There will also be a special performance from local dance group Frantic Flo plus tasters and discounts from Caffe Italia.

Centre Manager, Martin Hindson said: “We are so pleased with the response that we have had from the students from this year’s event, the 86 entries just show that there is a need for events like these which show case the young talent Milton Keynes has to offer. The standard of work in 2011 was exceptionally high so I am looking forward to seeing what the students have produced this year”.

To end the evening GAP will be hosting a special ‘Student After Party’ for all guests and participants of this year’s awards with an exclusive 15 per cent discount on top of their current sale. As well as offering an exclusive discount for all guests there will be free tasters from Krispy Kreme Doughnuts.

The Awards were created by Midsummer Place in 2010 to celebrate and showcase the young talent across Milton Keynes.
