A host of top names from industry and commerce turned out to the opening of the new Business and Leadership Centre at Milton Keynes College’s Silbury Campus and gave ringing endorsements for the collaborations taking place between them.

Clive Hawes from banking giant, Santander, said, “A few months ago I knew nothing about what was done at Milton Keynes College.”  This year the company will recruit fifteen hundred sixteen to twenty-four year olds.  Once it only considered taking on graduates, but “Now,” Mr Hawes said, “we want to work with the College and view them as a key partner in finding those candidates.”  Talking about the space available at Silbury Campus he continued, “Some of the facilities here are bigger and better than we have and I would rather be putting money into education than going to a large hotel.”

Managing Director of Rapid Sales Solutions, Vicky Beale, said, “I wouldn’t be here now if it weren’t for attending College as a student.”  She pointed out some branding work she had commissioned and accepted from some of today’s students and said the College is a crucial partner in much of her exhibition work.

Paul Tomlinson, Managing Director of Mirus IT said that his company already had College-trained apprentices in IT, Marketing and Business administration and that “the relationship’s grown very quickly.”  Mr Tomlinson said he was extremely impressed by the way the College is producing Customer Service training specifically adapted to his company’s needs.

An excellent turnout from the business community was welcomed to the event by College Principal and CEO Dr Julie Mills.  Jane Horridge, Director of Business Engagement for the College said, “It’s wonderful to see all these key people here tonight and it’s a great testament to everything the staff here are trying to do to drive the local economy.  Through the facilities and training we can offer we want to be right at the heart of that growth because it will create fulfilling careers for our students.”

The Centre brings together everything the College offers for companies in one place.  Located in a prime position in the city the Centre is easily accessible for concerns of every size.  It offers a whole range of services from desk spaces for start-ups to bespoke training and engagement programmes for large corporations.
