Sky Ride at The Hub

Fri 12 Aug 2011

TV presenter Jeff Brazier, Team Sky Pro Riders, Christian Knees and Matthew Hayman and paralympian cyclist Jodie Cundy will attend Sky Ride Milton Keynes on Sunday 28th August– a free event organised by Sky and British Cycling in partnership with Milton Keynes Council offering people of all ages and abilities the chance to ride around the town on traffic-free streets.

The event is part of Sky Ride 2011 – a national campaign to get one million people cycling regularly by 2013. The campaign includes free events, activities, information and support to help and inspire people of all ages and abilities to re-discover the fun they can have on two wheels.

The family friendly free 5km ride takes place around the streets of Central Milton Keynes. The piazza in the heart of The Hub is on the official Sky Ride MK cycle route. So stop, meet up with friends at the Bike Cafe,  grab a bite to eat in one of the many restaurants, be entertained by world class street performers and take a well deserved rest. There’s plenty to keep the kids occupied too, such as the ‘Design a Jersey’ competition and the Bib Boutique where they can customise their Sky Ride bibs. The Bike Café will play host to some very special guests throughout the day.

The route will circle round central Milton Keynes covering Midsummer Boulevard, The Hub, Avebury Boulevard and Silbury Boulevard. The idea is for everyone to come along and enjoy cycling round the city stopping as many times as they wish to take in the attractions as they go round the circuit.

Bikes will be available to hire or residents can bring their own. There will also be bike maintenance workshops taking place to help you keep your wheels in great shape and ride safely and with confidence.

Sky Ride Ambassador Jeff Brazier said: “I can’t wait to get back on my bike and take to the traffic-free streets at Sky Ride Milton Keynes on Sunday 28th August. It’s a great day out for the whole family so make sure you sign up for some fun on two wheels. Don’t forget we’re also looking for the people of Milton Keynes to tell us about their Perfect Hill to cycle down, so make sure you visit to nominate your ultimate descent on two wheels and register for the event. See you there!”

Ceri Griffin, cycling development officer for Milton Keynes Council, said: “This is a great opportunity for all the family to have a wonderful day out taking in the activities as you pedal round the 5km streets of Milton Keynes without worrying about the traffic.

“It is not a race and you do not need to get sponsored we just want everyone to have a great time.”

To register to take part either go online or register on the day.
