The Hub comes alive with Giants

Mon 22 Jul 2013

Hundreds of people came out to witness the amazing sight of 26 Giants of various shapes, sizes and designs come together for this popular community parade which is part of MK Festival Fringe, and is produced in association with award-winning arts group, Festive Road.

Star of the show was ‘Binbot’, a huge 4.7m high, walking, talking robot made out of recycled wheelie bins, who moved through the crowd mesmerising children and adults alike. But there were other amazing sights like a giant Bob Marley, an enormous winged white horse, a gigantic genie and his lamp plus a massive puppet celebrating the Mexican Day of the Dead!

In The Hub, street entertainers joined the crowds performing juggling acts, daring unicycle moves and there was even a human puppet. As the local Samba bands struck up everyone moved with the beat and helped cheer the parade out on to Midsummer Boulevard for its journey up through the city centre.

Many local community groups and schools were involved in not only creating the giants but also performing on the day, and the nominated charity this year, Age UK Milton Keynes, had collectors in and around the parade route.
